Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to join our innovative R&D team in Derby. In this role, you will apply advanced computational and statistical methods to analyze complex biological datasets, contributing to drug discovery and development across various therapeutic areas. You will work closely with molecular biologists, geneticists, and pharmacologists to translate data into actionable insights, driving the identification of novel targets, biomarkers, and therapeutic strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and other high-throughput biological data.
- Perform statistical analysis and data mining on large-scale datasets to identify patterns, associations, and novel biological insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design experiments, interpret results, and present findings to diverse audiences.
- Maintain and optimize bioinformatics tools, databases, and computational infrastructure.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bioinformatics, computational biology, and relevant scientific literature.
- Contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
Required Skills
- PhD or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of post-degree experience in bioinformatics or computational biology, preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, or Perl.
- Strong experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis (RNA-seq, WGS, WES, scRNA-seq).
- Solid understanding of statistical methods applicable to biological data.
- Experience with biological databases and public repositories (e.g., NCBI, Ensembl, TCGA).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Familiarity with machine learning techniques applied to biological data.
- Knowledge of specific therapeutic areas (e.g., Oncology, Immunology).
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement novel algorithms.
