Job Description
The Fort Worth Public Library is seeking a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Library Page to join our team. This essential role supports the efficient operation of the library by maintaining the order and accessibility of our collection. A Library Page is responsible for shelving materials, ensuring shelves are neat, and assisting with various organizational tasks. This position requires someone who is reliable, pays close attention to detail, and enjoys working in a public service environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately shelve books, DVDs, CDs, and other library materials according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system or alphabetical order.
- Perform shelf-reading to ensure materials are in correct order and maintain the neatness and appearance of shelves.
- Shift and organize materials on shelves to accommodate new additions and improve accessibility.
- Identify and retrieve materials for staff as needed.
- Assist with basic tidying and organization of public areas within the library.
- May assist with loading and unloading delivery carts and preparing materials for transit.
- Adhere to all library policies and procedures, including safety guidelines.
- Provide a high level of customer service to patrons and colleagues.
Required Skills
- Ability to alphabetize and arrange numerically with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to push/pull loaded book carts weighing up to 100 pounds and lift/carry up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Reliable and punctual work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (or currently enrolled).
- Previous experience working in a library or retail environment.
- Familiarity with the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
- Demonstrated interest in reading and libraries.
