Job Description
The Philbrook Museum of Art is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Museum Curator to join our dedicated team. This vital role involves the research, interpretation, development, and care of our diverse collections. The Curator will be responsible for conceptualizing and executing exhibitions, contributing to scholarly publications, and engaging with the public to enhance their understanding of art. Key Responsibilities
- Manage, research, and interpret assigned areas of the museum's permanent collection.
- Develop and implement engaging exhibition projects, from concept to installation.
- Contribute to the acquisition and deaccession processes, ensuring alignment with collection strategy.
- Produce scholarly publications, exhibition catalogues, and accessible interpretive materials.
- Collaborate with conservation staff on the care and preservation of artworks.
- Deliver public lectures, gallery talks, and educational programs.
- Participate in fundraising activities and donor cultivation.
- Represent the museum at conferences, symposia, and professional gatherings.
- Mentor junior staff and interns.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of curatorial experience in an art museum or similar institution.
- Demonstrated expertise in a specific area of art history relevant to Philbrook's collections.
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful exhibitions.
- Excellent research, writing, and public speaking skills.
- Proficiency in collection management software.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Art History or a related discipline.
- Fluency in one or more foreign languages.
- Experience with grant writing and fundraising.
- Familiarity with digital humanities tools and practices.
