Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Assistant District Attorney to join our esteemed team in Brooklyn. This pivotal role involves prosecuting criminal cases, advocating for victims, and contributing to the safety and well-being of our vibrant community. The ideal candidate will possess a strong legal background, exceptional courtroom skills, and a commitment to public service and ethical conduct. You will be responsible for managing a diverse caseload, from initial investigation through trial and sentencing, working closely with law enforcement and other justice system partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research, draft motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Represent the People of the State of New York in all stages of criminal proceedings, including arraignments, hearings, trials, and sentencings.
- Interview witnesses, victims, and law enforcement officers.
- Prepare and present cases to grand juries.
- Negotiate plea agreements and make sentencing recommendations.
- Adhere to strict ethical guidelines and professional standards.
- Collaborate effectively with law enforcement agencies, defense attorneys, and court personnel.
- Maintain accurate and thorough case files and records.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the New York State Bar and good standing.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in legal research software and tools.
- Commitment to public service and ethical legal practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in criminal law.
- Experience in trial advocacy, including direct and cross-examination.
- Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Haitian Creole) highly valued.
- Previous experience in a District Attorney's Office, Public Defender's Office, or similar legal environment.
