Job Description
BLG is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Trial Attorney to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group in our Montreal office. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse caseload, including commercial disputes, civil litigation, and professional liability defense. This role requires an individual with a strong command of trial procedures, excellent advocacy skills, and a proven track record of achieving favorable outcomes for clients. You will work within a collaborative team environment, contributing to our firm’s reputation for legal excellence and client-focused service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload from inception to resolution, including discovery, motions, mediation, arbitration, and trial.
- Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Represent clients in court hearings, trials, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
- Develop and execute effective litigation strategies.
- Conduct depositions, cross-examinations, and direct examinations.
- Communicate regularly with clients, providing updates and strategic advice.
- Collaborate with senior partners and legal teams on complex litigation matters.
- Mentor junior associates and paralegals.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or LL.B. degree from an accredited law school.
- Membership in good standing with the Barreau du Québec.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing Trial Attorney.
- Demonstrated experience in courtroom advocacy and trial procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English.
- Ability to manage a heavy caseload independently and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in complex commercial litigation.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to Montreal's diverse population.
- A track record of successful outcomes in high-stakes trials.
- Experience in mentoring or supervising junior legal professionals.
