Job Description
Desjardins Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Risk Manager to join our dynamic team in Laval, Quebec. This pivotal role involves identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring financial and operational risks across various business units. The successful candidate will play a critical part in strengthening our risk management framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting strategic decision-making to safeguard the organization’s assets and reputation. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive risk management policies, procedures, and frameworks in line with industry best practices and regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments, including identification, analysis, and quantification of market, credit, operational, liquidity, and reputational risks.
- Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and prepare regular risk reports for senior management and relevant committees, highlighting potential issues and recommended actions.
- Collaborate with business units to embed risk awareness and appropriate risk controls into daily operations and strategic initiatives.
- Lead the development and execution of risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations (e.g., OSFI, AMF) and internal policies.
- Provide expert advice and training on risk management principles and tools to various stakeholders.
- Participate in due diligence for new products, services, and strategic partnerships, evaluating their risk profiles.
- Manage and mentor junior risk analysts, fostering a strong risk culture within the organization.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in risk management within the financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of financial products, markets, and regulatory environments (e.g., Basel III, IFRS 9).
- Proven expertise in quantitative analysis, financial modeling, and data interpretation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in risk management software and tools (e.g., SAS, Python, R, Excel).
- Fluent in English and French (both written and spoken) due to the location and business requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex risk concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or MBA.
- Professional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager), CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), or PRM (Professional Risk Manager).
- Experience with GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) platforms.
- Previous experience working in a cooperative financial institution.
- Familiarity with Canadian financial regulations (OSFI, AMF).
