Job Description

Thomson Reuters is seeking a highly experienced and distinguished individual to join our legal solutions team as a Magistrate. This unique role is designed for a professional with deep, practical judicial experience, ideally having served as a Magistrate Judge or in a similar high-level judicial capacity. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive knowledge of court systems, judicial processes, and legal decision-making to enhance our cutting-edge legal research platforms, content development, and advisory services. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert consultation and guidance on federal and state judicial procedures, court administration, and legal methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of legal research tools, software features, and content accuracy by offering real-world judicial perspectives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in internal and external facing roles, including contributing to white papers, webinars, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Assist in the training and development of internal teams on judicial reasoning, case management principles, and court operations.
  • Participate in high-level client discussions and demonstrations, articulating the value of Thomson Reuters solutions from a judicial standpoint.
  • Analyze emerging legal trends, legislative changes, and judicial precedents to inform product strategy and content development.
  • Collaborate with legal editors, product managers, and technologists to ensure our offerings meet the evolving needs of legal professionals and the judiciary.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the legal field, with a significant portion dedicated to judicial service (e.g., Magistrate Judge, Administrative Law Judge, Senior Court Counsel).
  • Deep understanding of federal and/or state judicial systems, court rules, and legal procedures.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex judicial concepts into practical applications.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences from legal professionals to technical teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience as a United States Magistrate Judge or state-level equivalent.
  • Experience in legal technology, legal information services, or a similar industry.
  • Published legal scholarship or significant contributions to legal education.
  • Proven track record of innovation or process improvement within the judicial system.
