Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ammunition and Explosives Specialist to join our dynamic team in Chandler, Arizona. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and compliant handling, storage, inventory, and transportation of ammunition, explosives, and related hazardous materials. You will ensure strict adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company safety policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of explosive characteristics, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to operational excellence and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the receiving, inspection, inventory, storage, and issuance of ammunition and explosive materials.
  • Ensure all ammunition and explosives are stored in accordance with established safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., DoD, ATF).
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of storage facilities, equipment, and handling procedures.
  • Develop and implement safe operating procedures for the handling and transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, logs, and reports related to ammunition and explosives inventory, movements, and disposal.
  • Support research and development projects involving explosive components, providing expertise on safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external agencies for the safe and secure transport of materials.
  • Participate in emergency response drills and incidents, demonstrating proficiency in handling hazardous situations.
  • Provide training and guidance to personnel on safe ammunition and explosives handling practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with ammunition and explosives in a professional capacity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to ammunition and explosives (e.g., DoD 6055.09-M, ATF, OSHA).
  • Proven ability to safely handle, store, and transport hazardous materials.
  • Strong understanding of explosive properties, compatibility, and safety distances.
  • Excellent record-keeping and inventory management skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances and certifications.
  • Proficiency in using personal protective equipment (PPE) and specialized tools.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Chemistry, Engineering, Industrial Safety).
  • Certification in Ammunition and Explosives Safety (e.g., DOD Ammunition and Explosives Safety Course).
  • Experience with military or defense contracting environments.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems specific to hazardous materials.
  • HAZWOPER certification.
  • Forklift operator certification for hazardous materials handling.
