Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to elevate the wine and beverage program at Delta Hotels by Marriott Beauséjour. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to join our team in Moncton, New Brunswick, with full visa sponsorship provided for qualified international candidates. The Sommelier will be responsible for curating and managing our extensive wine list, providing expert recommendations to guests, conducting wine tastings, and ensuring the highest standards of wine service across all our dining outlets. You will play a crucial role in enhancing our guests’ culinary journey, contributing to our reputation for exceptional dining experiences. We are looking for an individual with a deep understanding of viticulture, a keen palate, and a commitment to delivering outstanding guest service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an exceptional wine list, ensuring diversity, quality, and appeal to our diverse clientele.
  • Provide expert wine recommendations to guests, pairing wines with menu items to enhance their dining experience.
  • Manage wine inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and conducting regular audits to minimize waste and ensure availability.
  • Train and educate front-of-house staff on wine knowledge, service standards, and effective upselling techniques.
  • Organize and lead wine tasting events and private dining experiences.
  • Maintain cellar conditions, ensuring proper storage and handling of all wines.
  • Monitor beverage costs and contribute to profitability through strategic purchasing and inventory management.
  • Adhere to all local and national liquor laws and regulations.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with wine suppliers and industry professionals.
  • Contribute to the overall guest satisfaction by anticipating needs and exceeding expectations.

Required Skills

  • Certified Sommelier designation (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers Level 2 or WSET Level 3/4).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sommelier or Assistant Sommelier in a fine dining restaurant or luxury hotel setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of international wines, spirits, and other beverages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage guests and educate staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for inventory management.
  • Proficiency in English; additional language skills are a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with POS systems and inventory software.
  • Prior experience working in a high-volume, upscale hotel environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead training programs for staff.
  • A passion for hospitality and continuous learning in the wine industry.
