Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and dedicated Janitor / Custodian to join the Anchorage School District team. This vital role ensures that our school facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained, contributing directly to a positive and productive learning environment for students and staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks, upholding the highest standards of hygiene and facility upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and waxing floors.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Empty trash receptacles and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
- Restock supplies in restrooms and other areas as needed.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and unclogging drains.
- Monitor and secure school facilities, including locking doors and windows.
- Report any significant maintenance issues or safety hazards to supervisors.
- Assist with setup and breakdown for school events and activities.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and district policies.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to perform various cleaning and custodial duties effectively.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment.
- Basic understanding of safety procedures and protocols in a school setting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
