Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. This is an exceptional opportunity for qualified international candidates, as we offer visa sponsorship. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of diesel-powered heavy equipment and machinery. You will work with cutting-edge technology and play a crucial role in ensuring our clients’ equipment operates efficiently and reliably. This role requires strong technical skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic tests to identify mechanical and electrical issues in heavy diesel equipment and engines.
- Execute repairs, overhauls, and preventative maintenance on various Caterpillar equipment and components.
- Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins to ensure proper repair procedures.
- Conduct thorough inspections and testing of repaired equipment to ensure compliance with operational standards.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately and timely.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
- Collaborate with the service team and parts department to ensure efficient job completion.
- Provide technical support and guidance to apprentices or less experienced mechanics when required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferably with heavy equipment (construction, agricultural, or transport).
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrains.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Valid driver’s license (Class 3 or equivalent an asset).
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Red Seal Endorsement as a Heavy Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Mechanic, or equivalent.
- Experience with Caterpillar equipment and diagnostic tools (e.g., CAT ET).
- Certification in specific heavy equipment brands or technologies.
- Post-secondary education in Heavy Equipment Technology or a related field.
- Experience working in a dealership or field service environment.
