Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Washington D.C. This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced mechanics looking to advance their careers, with full visa sponsorship provided for qualified international candidates. As a Diesel Mechanic at Ryder, you will be responsible for performing skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy-duty diesel trucks, trailers, and other company equipment. You will diagnose mechanical problems, perform repairs, conduct preventative maintenance, and ensure all equipment meets safety and operational standards. A strong commitment to quality workmanship and safety protocols is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled repair and maintenance work on heavy-duty diesel trucks, trailers, and other equipment, including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic equipment and technical manuals.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and services to ensure optimal vehicle performance and compliance with safety regulations.
- Complete repair orders, document work performed, and maintain accurate records of parts used and labor hours.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and company policies during all maintenance and repair tasks.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding vehicle status and potential issues.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with industry advancements and new technologies.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic or similar role.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines (e.g., Cummins, Detroit Diesel, PACCAR).
- Strong knowledge of air brake systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to use diagnostic software and tools.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required at application).
- Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE certification in Diesel Engines, Brakes, or Electrical Systems.
- Experience with various makes and models of heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
- Technical degree or certification from an accredited diesel mechanic program.
- Forklift operation experience.
