Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Public Safety Coordinator to join our team at the Port of Southampton. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing public safety protocols and procedures across our port facilities. You will work to mitigate risks, respond to incidents, and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, contributing significantly to the well-being and security of our operations and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive public safety plans and emergency response procedures specific to port operations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate and lead emergency drills and training exercises for staff and external stakeholders.
- Act as a primary point of contact during public safety incidents, ensuring swift and effective response and communication.
- Liaise with local emergency services, regulatory bodies, and community groups on public safety matters.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety measures, making continuous improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, investigations, and safety training.
- Prepare detailed reports on public safety performance and compliance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in public safety, security, or emergency management roles, preferably within a large operational environment.
- Strong understanding of relevant UK health, safety, and security legislation and regulations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective under pressure during critical incidents.
- Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
- Valid UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, incident command qualifications).
- Experience working within a port, logistics, or large industrial setting.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a related field (e.g., Security Management, Emergency Planning).
- First Aid and other relevant safety certifications.
