Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Educational Psychologist to join our dedicated Children’s Services team in Derby. This is an exceptional opportunity for a qualified professional looking to make a significant impact on the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You will be instrumental in assessing psychological and educational needs, providing expert advice, and developing interventions to support children’s learning, emotional well-being, and overall development within educational settings and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments of children and young people to identify their educational, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Provide expert advice and consultation to schools, parents, carers, and other professionals regarding strategies to support children with SEND.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based interventions and programs tailored to individual and group needs.
  • Contribute to the statutory assessment process, including writing psychological advice for Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans.
  • Deliver training and professional development to school staff on psychological principles and effective strategies for supporting children's learning and well-being.
  • Participate in multi-agency meetings and collaborate effectively with health, social care, and other relevant services.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with professional and organisational guidelines.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and reflective practice.

Required Skills

  • Doctorate or Master's degree in Educational Psychology (or equivalent professional qualification recognized by the HCPC).
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Educational Psychologist.
  • Demonstrable experience working as an Educational Psychologist in an educational or clinical setting.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant legislation, policies, and guidance related to SEND in the UK (e.g., Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice).
  • Excellent assessment, formulation, and intervention skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and autonomously.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Eligibility for UK Visa Sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in delivering group interventions and therapeutic support.
  • Training in specific assessment tools or therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, VIG, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy).
  • Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of cultural considerations.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or experience mentoring junior staff.
