Job Description

DLA Piper is seeking a highly experienced and esteemed individual for the specialized role of Magistrate within our Senior Legal Advisory team in Manchester. This unique position is designed for a professional with a profound understanding of judicial processes, legal interpretation, and the application of law in complex scenarios. While not a public judicial appointment, this role leverages the critical thinking, impartiality, and deep legal acumen characteristic of a Magistrate. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance on intricate legal matters, contribute to strategic decision-making, and uphold the highest standards of legal ethics and practice within the firm and for our clients. This role demands exceptional judgment, a commitment to justice, and the ability to navigate challenging legal landscapes with integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice and strategic counsel on complex cases, drawing upon a deep understanding of judicial principles and legal precedents.
• Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support internal teams and client engagements.
• Assist in the development of case strategies, focusing on a balanced and impartial assessment of facts and legal arguments.
• Offer authoritative interpretations of statutory and common law to guide dispute resolution and transactional advice.
• Contribute to the firm’s thought leadership on legal and judicial matters.
• Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, ethics, and confidentiality.
• Mentor junior legal professionals, imparting knowledge of judicial thinking and ethical practice.

Required Skills

• Proven experience in a judicial, quasi-judicial, or senior legal advisory capacity.
• Exceptional understanding of UK legal system, procedural law, and evidence.
• Superior analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate complex information impartially.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of articulating complex legal concepts clearly and persuasively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Admission as a Barrister or Solicitor in England and Wales with a minimum of 5 years PQE (Post-Qualified Experience).
• Experience as a Lay Magistrate or other equivalent judicial/quasi-judicial appointment.
• Advanced degree in Law (LLM) or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in a leadership role within a legal context.
